Public Relations

Public Relations used to be called “free media,” but there is nothing free about it.  You have to “earn” media attention, which why PR is referred to as gaining “earned media” now.

“Public” refers to many different stakeholders, such as the media, employees, customers, vendors, and your community large.

“Relations” is the art or science of establishing and promoting a favorable relationship with the affected public. It recognizes the need to understand the attitudes – and to develop effective relationships with – your affected public.

PR is used to achieve a variety of goals.   It can be to promote the opening of a business or a special event.  It is used when a business or person wants to change attitudes in the public, improve their reputation, or redefine their position in the market place. It can be used to influence decision makers to take a certain action.

To achieve any of these goals, you need to develop effective relationships with the appropriate audiences or publics, such as employees, customers, vendors, decision makers, the media, or your community at large.

We employ a variety of methods and activities to establish and promote a favorable relationship with the public and the media.  Primarily, we work hard to maintain good relations with the media around Nevada, as they are the ones who will decide if we get the attention we are seeking.

PR is often just one tool in a broader marketing campaign that may utilize advertising, brand development, or opinion research.   After consultation, we will develop an action to determine what other tools should be used to achieve your goal.

For large companies, we recommend counseling management at all levels in the organization to ensure they understand the policy decisions, course of action, and the communication plan to ensure that they “stay on message.”
